About Us

Individual construction volunteers are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.  See our construction calendar for locations, times, activities and volunteer availability.  The construction program offers volunteer opportunities Saturdays from 8-11am or 12-3pm, or special times by arrangement.

Volunteers do not have to be skilled in construction to assist on a work site - there are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others.  All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age or older and volunteers under 18 must have an adult with them on the job site.

The following is a list of construction volunteer opportunities:

Work Site Volunteer: Individuals and groups may participate in supervised construction activities which may include drywall/taping, roofing, framing, flooring, concrete work, painting, siding, cabinet installation, etc. All skill levels are welcome, and training is provided on-site.

Site Supervisor: Individuals with construction skills may sign up to supervise volunteer crews on work sites. Site supervisors must have previous experience in construction and building procedures. Commitment to an entire project is preferred. Site supervisors work closely with the construction manager, who will provide orientation, work plans, materials, and technical support.

Master's Builders: Don't confuse these wonderful guys with MasterBuilders; not one of them was a carpenter or contractor before retiring. Under the supervision of the construction manager, they work Wednesdays and Fridays on Habitat houses, enjoying fellowship and learning skills together.

Site Hosts: Individuals who enjoy working with people help support our construction manager at each work session by welcoming, orienting, and working alongside volunteers, ensuring that they have a safe, enjoyable, and productive Habitat experience. No construction skills are necessary, just people skills.

Current Volunteer Needs...

Saturday Cashiers
The Habitat ReStore is currently seeking individuals interested in volunteering as cashiers.  This commitment involves one or two Saturdays per month and a brief training period.  Retail experience is a plus but is not required for these friendly folks.  As a volunteer you will greet customers, answer incoming calls, and finalize customer purchases.  This job is a lot of fun for a "people person"!  If you are interested, please email us at [ email ]

Family Advocate
A Family Advocate serves a crucial role in the Habitat ministry by mentoring our partner families as they work their way through the Habitat program toward homeownership.  Family Advocates can be couples, or a single volunteer!  If you are interested in becoming a Family Advocate please contact our Family Services Coordinator at (605) 332-5962, ext. 14.

Volunteer Relations Committee Member
The Volunteer Relations committee is also looking for committed volunteers who have an interest in creating exciting and creative ways to honor volunteers.  This committee solicits, trains, assigns, thanks, recognizes, and nurtures volunteers.  The work of this committee is absolutely essential to Habitat's mission! If you are interested, please email the volunteer coordinator at [ email ].
